RUSSIAN PASSPORT

Dated 20 February 1906, this passport listed Andreas' age, residence, occupation, religion, military status, etc.  It also listed his dependents and indicated whether or not he had paid his taxes.

FORESTRY SERVICE PAPERWORK

Andreas Ratzlaff served in the Forestry Brigade at Camp Ratsyn.  He served from 1891 - 1894, thereafter entering the ranks of reservist.  He was under military obligation until August, 1909

S.S. WEIMAR INSPECTION CARDS

While traveling aboard the S.S. Weimar for U.S.A. in 1907, Andreas and Susanna Ratzlaff were obligated to pass a daily medical inspection.  These are the cards which recorded those inspections.

AMERICAN MENNONITE RELIEF, 1922

In February of 1922, Andreas Ratzlaff provided a food remittance to his brother-in-law, Johan Andreas Nachtigal, who lived in Pordenau Village, Molotschna Colony.  This was during the 1921-23 Ukrainian famine.

GERMAN CORRESPONDENCE

In the 1920s, Andreas Ratzlaff continued to correspond with family and friends in Mennonite colonies in Ukraine and Russia.

Missing his homeland after moving to U.S.A., Andreas Ratzlaff authored a poem in which he wistfully yearned for Volhynia.
